The square rose doily looks a little like what my Dad has been describing for years! His mother, my Granny taught me to crochet when I was 8yrs old. She died many years ago. About 10 years ago my Dad started talking about these beautiful flower doilies that his Mom made when he was a kid that had a big huge flower in the middle of each one (his favorite was the red rose)that she starched each petal up and it formed a bowl in the middle of the doily you could sit a vase or a bowl of candy in. I have looked and looked for a pattern so I can make him one before he dies but can't find anything like it! Can you help me? Have you seen anything like this anywhere?
